New Home

Friends of Capitol Hill Aikikai,

As of Monday, November 2, our dojo has a new home -- Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church at 201 4th Street, SE in Washington, DC.

Our new home has several features that we think make it attractive. First, it is very accessible -- a short walk from both the Capitol South and Eastern Market Metro Stations, plus on several bus routes, including the Circulator bus line. Also, the practice room is both large and open, without overhead obstructions that make weapons training especially challenging for our taller students. Third, we are just a block away from several restaurants and bars for the post-practice social hour.

Of course, nothing is perfect, and in this case, the "price" of moving is changing our practice schedule. Starting in November, we will hold practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:00 - 9:00 pm, with a few exceptions. Please check the Class Schedule and Dojo Calendar to confirm our schedule for any particular night.

We want to thank our old host, the Parish of St. Monica and St. James, for providing us a home for seven years. It doesn't seem like it has been that long, but we are happy that our experiment with starting an aikido dojo in downtown Washington DC has worked out so well.

As always, you are more than welcome to come visit us at our new home, and if you wish, train with us. We will be moving our mats on Monday night, and then holding a short practice before a post-practice celebration. Feel free to join us!
